OMG! Did Usher burn the house down with his performances? Yes, he did! On November 17, 2014 at the United Center, I had the pleasure of not only seeing Usher perform, but August Alsina, Trey Songz, and Rico Love as well! I’ve had the pleasure last year of hanging around Usher and many other celebrities at SXSW in Austin. Conversing with celebrities and seeing them perform in their element is two different experiences.
The evening started with DJ Cassidy making the crowd get loose by playing familiar tunes and mixing them with a little bit of old school and new school combined. I mean DJ Cassidy was so live that when I was ordering a drink, I couldn’t help myself to not move while waiting in line. He took us through memory lane by playing some classic songs and adding his style to it.
When DJ Cassidy’s set was over, the arena started playing a premade track list of songs and once again I couldn’t stop my hips from moving. If you saw me dancing you would’ve thought that someone was performing on stage. The bass was blasting, my jams were being played and you couldn’t tell me anything with my drink and doing my two-step.
The lights finally go off and August Alsina comes on stage! All the girls are yelling “I Love You August!” August starts dancing with his backup dancers, he’s dancing with a Cali swag, and the crowd is loving it. During his performance, he decides to take a break to tell us how cold Chicago is and that he wasn’t prepared for it. But, following his statement about the cold weather he immediately heats up the stage with one of his sexy, baby making, grown and sexy songs. Then a few songs later, he finishes his set without performing his HUGE hit that everyone knows, “I Luv This Shit”. I was a little disappointed.
The arena starts to fill up a little more as the time is getting closer to 8 o’clock. I’m looking at all the women who wore platform heels and skintight dresses. Men telling their lovers “You’re welcome.” I watch groups of friends and families scrambling to get to their seats before Usher gets on stage. And then, the lights focus on the stage and Usher’s band is in position… It’s Showtime!
“Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah…” Is what everyone is yelling. Usher is performing with fire a blazing. His dancers are swaying; the crowd is singing his tunes. Everyone is going wild! I was so glad that no one was sitting near me because I truly couldn’t stop moving! Usher sang all of his hit songs new and old. His backup dancers were so live and entertaining! And then, he brings out a guest, It’s August Alsina and he starts performing, “I Luv This Shit”. The crowd goes crazy!
While Usher allowed August to perform his smash hit during his segment, Trey Songz comes out singing the remix to the song! Then you can really hear all the women yelling at the top of their lungs for Trey Songz.
Once the song was over, Trey stayed on stage to sing a few of his hits with his mentor Usher. Then Usher begins to talk more about his mentoring and Rico Love comes on stage performing his smash hit, “They Don’t Know”. It was truly an exciting moment to get the crowd even more electrified.
Usher kept the energy of the audience at an all-time high the entire evening. With his dancing and singing songs that we haven’t heard in a long time, the crowd loved every minute of it! But, then the show had to come to an end, and Usher ended the night by performing his dance hit, “DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love”.
Seeing Usher perform live for 2 hours straight was worthwhile! I danced the whole night with a huge smile on my face. The UR Experience Tour is something you should definitely check out if it’s in your town. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed!
