We had the privilege of attending “Oprah’s The Life You Want” Weekend in New Jersey, which is apart of an eight-city arena tour and transformational weekend featuring Oprah Winfrey and her team of special guests. Each tour stop spans two days. On Friday night, Oprah took the stage, bringing her personal story and insights to life in a one of a kind intimate evening. Then on Saturday, Oprah lead a day-long gathering of thousands with handpicked thought leaders and pop culture icons including Iyanla Vanzant, star of OWN’s hit series “Iyanla Fix My Life,” regular O Magazine contributor, best-selling author and spiritual life coach; best-selling author of Eat Pray Love, Elizabeth Gilbert; and one of Time 100’s Most Influential people, Pastor Rob Bell. “Oprah’s The Life You Want Weekend” is produced by Harpo Studios, O, The Oprah Magazine, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network and WME Live, and is presented by Toyota and Olay.
During Oprah’s intimate evening, the audience got a chance to see apart of Oprah that many have never seen before. From the days of segregation to the advantages of attending an integrated school, Oprah was alloted the opportunity to develop and flourish in an unbiased environment. Yet at home she was raised by a grandmother who believed she would never do better than the life of servitude . Smart as a whip from the time she could open her mouth, Oprah skipped kindergarden and was sent straight to 1st grade. But this trailblazer hit a rough patch when she got pregnant at the age of 14. Sent to live with her father in Tennessee pregnant and scared. Her father was completely against the pregnancy. A few months later Oprah gave birth, only to lose her babyboy after he was couple weeks ago. Cold and without thought her father believed that the death of her newborn baby was simply a second chance at life for the young teen. The details of Oprah’s life was more than enough to have everyone weeping in their seats.
The thousands who attended this event filled the stadium with electric warm energy. Eager for knowledge and wisdom from the trailblazers as well as Oprah herself, the pulse of the room had everyone vibing in a rhythm together. Unison and harmony are the words to best sum up this phenomenal weekend…simply phenomenal!
